Big Cats Week: Amur Leopard

Picture from the world wide web

Navn: Amur leopard - Panthera pardus orientalis

Name: Amur leopard - Panthera pardus orientalis
Population: Less than 40 (no I did not forget a zero). It is a critically endangered species.
Habitat: Ussuri – the southeastern part of Russia
Main threats: The amur leopard has lost 80 % of its former territory. Primarily this is due to forest fires and land conversion for farming. Due to absence of wild prey, the leopards often venture into deer farms in search for food. Owners of these farms are quick to protect their investment by killing leopards attacking their stock.
