Big Cats Week: Indochinese Tiger

Picture from the world wide web

Endnu en tiger i Big Cats Week

Navn: Den indokinesiske tiger – Panthera tigris corbetti

Population:

Yet another tiger in the Big Cats Week

Name: Indochinese Tiger – Panthera tigris corbetti

Population: Around 300, but this is an estimated number, since there are restricted access to the areas where the tiger lives. It is an endangered animal.

Habitat:
Most are found in Thailand, but they also live in Cambodia, China, Lao PDR,
Myanmar and Vietnam.

Main threats:
Habitat fragmentation due to road building etc. This is especially a problem in Vietnam. The fragmentation of habitat forces tigers to live in isolated groups in a limited area. This makes them more vulnerable to poaching.
